Record amount of legislation in 2013

A record number of 1,439 bills and government decrees and other regulations were approved last year, 144 more than in 2012.

On average, four new regulations came into effect on each day last year, as the number of government decrees exceeded that issued in 2012 by 25%.

To record them all, official gazette Magyar Közlöny published 225 issues adding up to 90,344 pages, 50,000 more than in 2012.

    When will Fidesz learn that ‘running a country’ is not about the quantity of laws and decrees, but of quality in work and getting people behind them going forward. After over 3,5 years the majority of Hungarians still think Hungary is heading in the wrong direction…

    I’m sure some of the changes were necessary, but even lawyers must have difficulty keeping up with all those changes…

    Still, the paper industry must be doing well as a result – but in order to protect the environment and allow law-abiding citizens to know which law they should be complying with, can we have a little less “productivity” from our overworked ministers in 2014 please?
