TASZ urges rethink of online registration for elections

The system of online registration for next year’s elections opens up the possibility of voting fraud, rights organisation TASZ said on Wednesday, calling for the system to be redesigned.

Under the system, a request for registration can be submitted online without preliminary verification of personal ID, the Society for Rights of Freedom told MTI in a statement.

This paves the way for identity fraud since anyone could use another person’s data contained on a residency permit, said TASZ. Basic data is quite easy to access, as it is required for signing eg, a property contract or a referendum petition, it added.

TASZ said it was calling on the National Elections Office (NVI) to redesign the online registration system so as to install procedures guaranteeing election transparency.

In the UK we fill in a form. Simple. Why do Hungarians have to make everything so difficult?
